Pop, Crackle, Crunch: Contact Mic 101

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Explore how everyday objects such as tin cans, sandpaper, bubble wrap, and plastic combs can become strange and beautiful musical instruments when amplified with a simple contact microphone. This workshop will cover the basics of how contact mics work, construct new musical instruments with everyday items, and make a lot of sound!

We will also talk about improvisation and graphic scores as a way of composing for these new musical instruments. Participants will be encouraged to collaborate on a simple graphic score, which everyone will perform as a group.

** This workshop is free and open to the public as part of Moogfest’s The Joyful Noise of STEAM program, and is appropriate for children ages 8 and up. A festival ticket is not required to attend.

** This workshop is limited in capacity and offered on a first come first served basis. Please plan to arrive at the venue at least 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the session.

** Entrance is not guaranteed.
