Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

We tend to think of our voices as tied to our bodies, yet they are performed and malleable, arguably more so than our bodies. How do we use our voices? How do we listen to them? How do they embody our identities? Fabricated digital voices are all around us as personal assistants, as artificially intelligent phone operators, as technologies that distort to prevent identification, as digital clones, and more. Who chooses how our disembodied assistants speak, as sonic entities with gendered, racialized and class-based qualities, the results of which circulate in society both through presence and absence?

Come learn about the voice and some of its synthetic modifications. Increase your awareness of the socio-cultural and political reverberations of our 21st century robots. With the help of computer processing this workshop will explore characteristics of (your) individual voices, transformations of them, and uses of them as controllers of artistic events.

** If you successfully register for this workshop, it will be confirmed in your personalized schedule. Please plan to arrive at the venue at least 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the session. Those not in attendance 5 minutes before the session begins will forfeit their spot to those in line.

** If you were unable to successfully register for this workshop but were added to the waitlist and want to attend, it may still be possible if a space becomes available on the day of the session. Please plan to arrive at the venue at least 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the session and wait in the standby line. Open spots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis to those in line.
