Moogfest 2018

Many people are hesitant to make a start in electronic music because of the perception that some degree of technical expertise is required. Lisa Smith, who herself had to get past her fear of not being a so-called “expert” to say “yes” to this workshop, rose out of the Midwest to become a techno and dance music dynamo.

In this workshop geared toward women and members of the LGBTQ community, she will share how she got started, why the appearance of expertise can (in practice) be a form of gatekeeping, how the internet has leveled the informational playing field, and how to do your best to move past those fears to get started or move further in making or playing music.
