Longtime Buchla Associate Joel Davel talks about Don Buchla’s design approach and the motivations behind them. Starting in the 1960’s, Don collaborated with composers, creating instruments capable of exploring a new electronic sonic palette, and then expanded the ideas into controllers that Don hoped would create new means of expression in live performance. We look at the history and development of the instruments plus demonstrate and talk some specifics about the novel technology used with the controllers.
