Pamelia Stickney

Pamelia Stickney’s love affair with the theremin began while recording with the Geggy Tah in 1997 when her bandmates showed her the film “Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey”. Within months of playing, she was first introduced to director Steven Martin. Upon hearing her, he arranged a meeting with Bob Moog who immediately gave her an endorsement deal, asking her to take home the Ethervox that was on display at the NAMM show. Pamelia's background with string instruments and as a jazz bass player influenced her signature playing techniques, expanding the expressive possibilities of the instrument as displayed in her TED Talk.

In 2003, she began to perform her solo theremin orchestral pieces in which she composes and improvises using looping pedals, which led to her debut solo album Thinking Out Loud, released on John Zorn’s Tzadik label in 2007. Pamelia's unique voice and passion for performing diverse styles of music has landed her on stage and in the studio with artists such as David Byrne, Kontrapunkt Ensemble of the Vienna Musikverein, Foetus, Yoko Ono, Grace Jones, Sebastien Tellier, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, Cibo Matto, the Cape Symphony Orchestra, and Matthew Sweet.
