Mike Roan

Mike Roan holds a Ph.D., and MS in Acoustics and a BS in Physics from the Pennsylvania State University. He is currently the John R. Jones III faculty fellow with the Mechanical Engineering Department at Virginia Tech working in the areas of immersive audio, psychoacoustics, and digital signal processing. Dr. Roan has been the author or co-author on over 120 publications and reports and PI or Co-PI on externally funded research grants totaling over $27M. His current interests include the neuroscience, physiological response to , and study of immersive reality. Previous to his appointment at Virginia Tech in 2005, Dr .Roan worked for a decade on signal processing problems of interest to the DoD and intelligence communities. Dr Roan has worked over the past two years to build a state of the are research facility geared toward studying immersion. The result is the Acoustics, Signal Processing, and Immersive Reality (ASPIRe) Lab at Virginia Tech.
