MHYSA is a Queer Black Diva and underground pop star for the cyber resistance from Prince George’s County, Maryland. At age 4, she was performing in her parents' basement and community events, being deeply involved in performing arts until her late teens. When she went to college, she focused on poetry and began writing songs, mostly in the 12-bar blues style. In November 2015, she released her first official track, “power cuts” (featuring Chino Amobi) via NON Worldwide, but only in 2016 did she begin using her own vocals and performing songs live, having a sample-heavy music practice before.

Labeled “identity affirming” by Fact Mag, the video for the track stars Philadelphia artists and musicians DJ Precolumbian, Genesis Martinez-Crespo, and Discwoman‘s DJ Haram along with MHYSA herself. A month after “power cuts’” release, MHYSA performed alongside Abdul Kadir on synth at Recess in New York for Sondra Perry‘s My Twilight Zone Thing. The performance ended early after Mhysa and Abdul blew out the speakers.

In winter of 2016, she was listed in Artforum’s “Best of 2016: Music” and her debut album, fantasii, was released on Halcyon Veil this summer to critical acclaim. Since then she has been performing both as headliner and support for acts such as NAR and Laurel Halo.
