Emily Sprague

Emily is a synthesist, songwriter, and recording artist from the Catskill
Mountains. After years of working on and touring with her folk band, Florist,
she began exploring the world of modular synthesizers as a way to expand
her musical horizons beyond the structure and familiarity of writing pop
songs on an acoustic guitar and into a world of generative, improvisational
electronic composition.
Her philosophy is that sound and the process of creating it is an organic
and meditative one, often with a mind of it's own. Emily is most inspired by
energies of the natural world and the ambient but musical sounds that are
made by plants, animals, water, acoustics, and wind. Modular synthesizers
are beautiful tools which communicate amongst themselves to recreate
sounds found in nature, and sounds found everywhere else. Instead of
"playing" the instrument, she attempts to guide it.
